  • 🐶🐦🦟 Did you know? Most infectious diseases that affect people actually start in animals.

🌍 Around *6 in 10 known infectious diseases* in humans come from animals, and *nearly 3 in 4 new and emerging diseases*, including Ebola, avian influenza and mpox, originate in wildlife or domestic animals.

💚 That’s why experts use a *One Health* approach, recognizing that the health of *people, animals and our environment are deeply connected*.

Here are a few simple ways you can help protect yourself and your community:

🐾 Wash your hands after handling animals.
🍗 Cook meat, eggs and seafood thoroughly.
💧 Drink safe water and practice good food hygiene.
💉 Keep your pets vaccinated and healthy.
🦟 Protect yourself from mosquito and tick bites.

🌎✨ Preventing future outbreaks starts long before people get sick. By protecting animals, food systems and the environment, we also help protect our own health. Together, one healthy planet means healthier people.

  • 🧪🩺 A major breakthrough in the fight against Ebola is happening right now.

🌍 For the first time, people affected by the current Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are being enrolled in a new international clinical trial testing potential life-saving treatments.

    Since the outbreak began:

⚠️ More than 1,400 people have been diagnosed.
❤️ Nearly 210 people have recovered.
🕊️ Nearly 440 people have died.

Unlike some other types of Ebola, there are currently no approved treatments for Bundibugyo virus disease.

💙 The new PARTNERS trial will evaluate promising antiviral medicines while ensuring every patient receives the best supportive care, including fluids, oxygen, pain relief and close medical monitoring.

    *Why does this matter?*

🔍 Research during an outbreak helps scientists find answers when they are needed most, not years later. Every participant brings us one step closer to safer, more effective treatments that could save lives now and in future outbreaks.

🔬 Science today. Hope for tomorrow.

  • 📱👧 The digital world is shaping our children’s health every single day.

💙 Technology can help children learn, create, connect and access health information. But how digital platforms are designed also matters.

Research links excessive digital exposure, especially among vulnerable young people, with increased risks of:

    😟 Anxiety and depression
    😴 Poor sleep
    📉 Less physical activity
    🤝 Fewer real-life social connections

🚨 Children may also be exposed to harmful content, misinformation, online exploitation and marketing of unhealthy products.

    What can families do ?

✅ Create screen-free moments, especially during meals and before bedtime.
✅ Encourage outdoor play, hobbies and time with family and friends.
✅ Talk openly about what children see and do online.
✅ Use age-appropriate safety and privacy settings.
✅ Remember: quality of screen time matters just as much as quantity.

❤️ The goal isn’t to eliminate technology—it’s to help children enjoy its benefits while growing up healthy, safe and connected both online and offline.

  • 🌡️ Heat can be dangerous, but a few simple steps can protect you and your loved ones.

🥵 When temperatures rise, your body has to work harder to stay cool. Too much heat can lead to heat exhaustion or even life-threatening heatstroke, especially for older adults, young children, pregnant women and people with heart, lung or kidney conditions.

*Beat the heat with these simple tips:*

✅ Drink water regularly (don’t wait until you’re thirsty!)

🧢 Wear light, loose-fitting clothes and a hat.

🌳 Stay in the shade or indoors during the hottest hours of the day.

🚿 Cool down with a cool shower or a damp towel.

🏠 Keep your home cool by closing curtains during the day and opening windows at night.

👶 Never leave children or pets in parked cars – not even for a minute!

❤️ Check on older relatives, neighbours and anyone living alone.

⚠️ Feeling dizzy, confused, nauseous or extremely hot? These could be signs of heat illness. Move to a cool place, drink water and seek medical help if symptoms are severe.

💙 Stay cool, stay hydrated and look out for one another!

  • ⚡💡 Electricity isn’t just about turning on a light. It can save lives, improve health and create opportunities.

🌍 Today, 655 million people around the world still live without electricity, while 2 billion people cook with wood, charcoal or kerosene, filling their homes with harmful smoke.

🏠 Household air pollution from these fuels is linked to around 3 million deaths every year.

🌱 Renewable energy now provides *more than 30% of the world’s electricity*, and solutions like off-grid solar and mini-grids are bringing clean, affordable power to more communities.

    *What can you do?*

    ✅ Save energy where possible.
✅ Choose energy-efficient appliances and LED bulbs.
✅ Support clean cooking and renewable energy initiatives in your community.
✅ Spread awareness that access to clean, reliable energy is about more than convenience. It’s essential for better health, cleaner air and a brighter future for everyone.

⚡ Clean energy powers healthier lives.
